March Update

ok I'm just gonna rant here

As most of you know, last month during a freak cold front our apartment flooded.  A pipe burst in our upstairs neighbor's ceiling while he was away on vacation.  The flood was so bad that we had to vacate our apartment for 2 nights and had industrial fans running 24/7 in the meantime and for roughly 11 days after that.

Because I didn't have access to my computer, or my books, or about 40% of my apartment, I ended up cancelling last month's video.

WELL

I hit March 1st running with all of the information that I had gathered and I convinced myself that in order to make up for not putting out a video in February I was going to hit you guys with a Cats-length video again to make up for missing a month.

3 days later my Grandmother died

2 days before my Dad's (her son's) 60th birthday

Needless to say, that sucked, a lot.

I don't want to go into family stuff online, just know that this is a complicated and difficult situation for my family.  I just hope that the beer I brought my Dad was able to help a little.

So, as a man, instead of letting myself feel feelings I decided to throw myself at work and really dive into this video.  Unfortunately, what started as a fun takedown of [REDACTED] ended up turning into a 2 hour diatribe about Medieval Anti-Semitism in Europe and the Catholic Church.  Kind of a weird tangent I know, but it makes sense if you read all of my "Pepe Silva"-esque notes.

But with such a serious topic, I really wanted to take the time to make sure that I was being as clear and concise with everything that I said.

I don't, for example, want to word something incorrectly and have everyone think that I'm making a massive sweeping statement about all of Christianity or something like that.

Sometimes videos just need a few extra passes to get right in order to make sure that they're both accessible, but more importantly, accurate, when talking about these more serious topics.  This video that I'm still trying to get through just happens to be one of those videos that necessitates a LOT of revisions.  So, in that vein, I did what I could to cut the video down to a manageable size and was able to get a rough recording of that script.

Then there was a mass shooting at the King Soopers in Boulder.

Now I don't mean to make light of this situation, nor do I mean to be disrespectful for those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy.  But, uh, fun fact about Sarah and I: we used to live within walking distance of that King Soopers.  In fact, that's where we used to get our food, as in, we've both been to that very supermarket dozens, if not HUNDREDS of times.

So often, in fact, that my mother was worried that we'd gone there for some reason and called me to check up on me.

Inconveniently for her, I slept through the entire event (in our new apartment that's on the other side of Denver now), but that meant that for a solid half an hour, until she managed to finally get a hold of Sarah, my mother, along with several other members of my family, thought I had been killed.

Again, I don't want to belittle or diminish this tragedy, I just want to get it across that I lost a few days worth of work having a minor existential crisis about what would've happened if Sarah and I happened to have to met up with an old friend in Boulder and we went to our old King Soopers for "old times sake".

THEN

OVER A MONTH after the initial flood, we finally got contacted by the guys who were going to repair our apartment.

Now one of the reasons we left the apartment after the flood was so that we could leave those massive fans running 24/7, the idea being that if we just let them run then we'd get our apartment back sooner and there'd be less damage.  When the water damage guys eventually left they said something to the effect of "oh yeah this cleaned up really nice, there's really nothing to repair outside of a fresh coat of paint."

WELL

9:15pm on a Sunday Sarah gets a text from a guy that says, and I kid you not I'm writing this word for word:

"Hi Sarah this is [REDACTED] the contractor

I apologize for contacting you so late it's been a busy day

I have a brand new baby

I do have some drywall guys that are going wanting to come and get started there tomorrow and just wanted to make sure that that was ok"

This guy gave us LESS THAN 12 HOURS NOTICE to do repairs THAT WE DIDN'T KNOW WERE HAPPENING.

We said no because I was pulling all-nighters trying to get this video done (also, just wanna bring up that when he eventually came over he was talking to the other guys and mentioned that his baby isn't due till June, jackass).

And while I did everything I could with the time that I had, like, I could release a really cool episode of a podcast right now, but not a whole video, we had to let them come in to fix our apartment.

We are currently on day 2 of 4 days worth of repairs that was initially supposed to be a "fresh coat of paint".

Even if I managed to make all of my standard deadlines I'd still be editing this video under the dustcover that's keeping everything out of my computer's fans.

So I'm sorry again to say, no video this month.

Longtime patrons will know that this is exceptionally out of the ordinary, and I really hope that the rest of 2021 is kinder.

I'm going to keep working on this video, but it's honestly so big and so much has happened that I can't 100% promise you that when I eventually get something out that it's going to be what I've been alluding to here.  I've already been generally working on this project since about October of last year and it might just be easier/better to work on something else for April just to get my momentum back.

Again, I'm really sorry about all this.

I know I put this in every post, but man oh man do I mean it you guys.

Thank you all for your continued support

I literally could not do this without you

and I don't copy and paste that either, I literally write it out every single time cuz I really do mean it, thank you.

tl;dr no video this month, life is hell, hug a loved one

P.S.

Update: Almost just lost my Covid vaccine appointment because the painters just *HAVE* to be here when *THEY* want to be, but as of right now we should still be good which means that by the end of the week I should have my first dose of the vaccine, hopefully.
Cross your fingers!

Comments

Jesus dude! That's a whole heaping helping out what the fuck! I'm glad y'all are overall ok and I'm glad to hear you're not cutting corners or sacrificing the quality of your work to meet arbitrary deadlines. Take the time you need and I look forward to whatever you post next!

Troubles come not in single spies but in batallions. Hopefully this will end sooner rather than later.
